About Patch of Earth

Welcome! My name is Travis Neighbor Ward and I’m so glad to have you visit Patch of Earth!

At Patch of Earth I create and curate content related to cooking, travel, the home, gardening, crafts, celebrations, and more. Based in Atlanta, I’m always looking for new ideas and projects to make city living better–so your patch of Earth, and mine, can be more beautiful and fulfilling. I also love bringing in friends to help publish great articles and information for you! I’m also an expert in SEO, content marketing, and WordPress. I love sharing all of that with others, too.

Where I’m Coming From

My greatest passions are family, home, cooking, travel, books, gardening, writing, photography, crafts, and nature. I love discovering and sharing creative projects, and I’m an optimist–I believe in the magic of inner potential. When it comes to recipes I like healthy food and I also love dessert, so I try to find a balance. I publish recipes for every type of meal, but I tend to cook Italian and American cuisine. (More on my Italy connection below!)

I grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and I still remember fondly the family newspaper I “published” as a kid. After I graduated from The University of Pennsylvania with degrees in literature and creative writing, I moved to Florence, Italy, for five years and worked as an English teacher and translator.

When I came back, I wrote the book Living, Studying, and Working in Italy, and launched my magazine career as a senior editor at Departures magazine in New York City. Eventually I moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where my best friend and then fiance (now husband) lived. I became the Editor of Atlanta Magazine’s HOME; the Home & Garden editor of Atlanta Magazine; and the Editor-in-Chief of The Atlantan, a monthly magazine. It was a lot of hard work and it was fun, but I left to spend more time with my kids and work on my writing. Now I’m back as my own boss, which I’m enjoying fully.

As you can guess, I’m a huge fan of indie publishing and anything DIY! 🙂

I’ve also written a novel called Come Find Me and I’m a cancer survivor. My husband Brian is an architect and he designed our family home, which we share with our two daughters (Aislin and Lila), two dogs (Cocoa, a mini dachshund, and Poppy, a spaniel), and a guinea pig (Teddy). We’re in high school and middle school mode, and loving it!
