  1. It is interesting that I had compiled my own list before I ran across yours. Then when I did find yours, I was pleased to see that my top 3 were actually on your list. I am an older wife/mom (69) who does a fair amount of laundry since my husband plays golf a lot and my 37 handicapped son still lives with us. I did not want even to consider a high-priced appliance, so again, I was pleased when I saw that you, too, had chosen the ones I thought would be good. I will probably go to Home Depot or Lowes this weekend or Monday, and make the choice. In the old days, Kenmore was the best, as far as I was concerned. I had a Kenmore which was great from 1968 until 1996, can you believe it? It held up through 2 athletic sons, my handicapped son, and my husband/coach/ACC referee/golfer and my rush as a high school English teacher. I cried when I had to buy a new one. and went with another Kenmore. The newer one was a big disappointment. That’s when I discovered that “they don’t make things like they used to.” My next washer WILL NOT be a Kenmore!!

    • Brenda, I can believe it lasted that long! I feel like appliances should stick to being simple and easy to use, above all else. We ended up buying the Maytag Bravos top-load washing machine, which was much less expensive than many. I love it so far and I love that it has more old-fashioned knobs for dials, instead of computer touch screen. It took me a while to get used to the way that it uses so much less water (at first I thought it wasn’t filling up enough, but it does and it saves me on the water bill). Plus, I can load a TON of laundry in at once. I feel like it cut my number of loads in half because they’re so much bigger. And in case you’re wondering, no I don’t get anything from Maytag for saying that. Let me know if you buy a model you love!

    • Brenda, I’m curious as to what were you top three on your list and what did you end up purchasing? I, too, had a Kenmore for over 20 years and in 2012 bought a Whirlpool Cabrio which I have had repaired 8 times and am finally kicking it to the curb after less than 4 years. Grrrr!!! So now I’m researching like a mad.woman trying to find a good machine with a good value.

    • Hi, Heather. We bought the 4.3 model and I still love it months later. I love the fact that it has no central post inside the drum, which means I can wash lots of towels and sheets, and I just take them out after (instead of extracting them from around the post, like my old washing machine required). I can also stuff it with tons of laundry — I feel like I’m doing half my previous number of loads because of it. I’ve only had the machine start to “walk” once because I overstuffed it. With my old machine that seemed to happen fairly often when I’d wash bulky stuff. Some people have complained that it doesn’t use enough water. I find that it does, but it always look like it doesn’t. (But that shows me it really is conserving water.) Sometimes at the end of the cycle, when I’ve washed sheets or towels, I’ll look in and see that it’s formed a sort of bubble stretched over the top — like it’s made a tent with the sheet or towel. But everything is clean and wet below it. The one thing I have noticed is that it’s not as loud as my old machine, but the wash cycle lasts a lot longer, so I’m aware of it making sounds for longer. It’s on the same floor as our bedrooms and I’m a light sleeper, so I don’t do laundry when I’m trying to sleep. But the rest of my family can easily sleep through it.

  2. This is a nice post about washing machine. Washing machine helps a person in washing and it reduces manpower. This post has shown the picture of great model of washing machine it will help the buyer to select a quality washing machine for their family. So thanks for writing such a wonderful post.

  4. Thanks for the research and your report on the Maytag Bravos. I am replacing a Bosch front loader that I despise because it is leaking again. In 7 years we’ve repaired it 4 times, and it does a lousy job of cleaning. The Bosch gas dryer is doing an okay job so I plan to keep it.
I am considering the Maytag Bravos or the LG WT1101CW. The Good Housekeeping site states the LG has a 10 year warranty. That is certainly attractive based on my past experience.
I do like the open tub design of the Bravos you describe. I’ll go look at the machines this week and decide.

  5. I was interested in this article because my wife and I have had the repairman out 3x in a month to fix our whirlpool which is only 5 years old. Luckily we had a warranty on it and they are reimbursing us almost the full cost of the machine. So with that I was doing quite the research and Founf the Lg Wt1501CW to fit our needs. Home Depot has their free delivery, $15 removal of old machine but the kicker to it all is you can get a 3yr for $65 or 5yr protection plan for $100. Don’t get me wrong the machine is only $500 but if your luck is like mine on the 366rd day it would crap out..

  6. Great work. I know how hard is to bring this kind of information for making this kind of article. I appreciate your work. But people are getting confused when they saw lots of option. and here is 26 washing machine to choose it is difficult. you should bring 5 best or 10 best washing machine or any product in one article. it will be easy to people to make their decision.

    • Hi, Steve. I liked the fact that it has a large drum without a center post, so I don’t have to deal with unwinding sheets and towels anymore. I also really liked that it has old-fashioned knobs that you turn. I saw so many reviews of machines with digital keypads for the controls, and people were complaining that they broke down a lot and then were expensive to repair/replace. Our dryer has that sort of display and it broke within the first few months. Luckily we were under warranty, but if we weren’t it would’ve been a real bummer.

  7. Thanks for the research and thanks for all the comments below. Our washing machine leaked all over the floor last night, so I am researching a new machine. Not what I wanted to do so close to Christmas. Maytag Bravos looks like a perfect machine for me. Thanks again.

  8. Is the reason for not having the Samsung 400 series on your list due to the lid issues which ended up being recalled? A few friends have this one and love it, so I was just wondering… It is so overwhelming having to go through all the reviews and hope that you get a good machine.
